Planejamento do turismo e municípios - Rio de Janeiro : IBAM, jan./fev./mar. 2006

Nowadays, tourism is a sector that presents one of the bests perspectives in order to reach specific governmental policies objectives. These policies are related to job and income creation, foreign exchange captivation, income decentralisation, local inequality reduction and improvement of the populations's quality of life. In Brazil, tourism has an impact on strategic policy of development and influence over other economy sectors such as income distribution. In the other hand, spalling and inadequate policies for urban and environment development, as well as policies for natural and cultural goods, calls attention to risks such as degradation of social and cultural characteristics. In this scenario, the municipality starts taking new roles, such as local development promoter. The intention of this article is to create new perspectives which may generate more effective actions. These ideas and actions may, consequently, guarantee the sustainability of tourism activity and project a better future to society.
