First of all, we see that committees were not dealing with exactly the same questions. Secondly, that each committee more or less implicitly adhered to a certain interpretation of the precautionary approach. And finally, that important differences of opinion exist as to the nature of the risks involved, in real or theoretical terms. The episode therefore enables us to better understand the relationships between scientific expertise and risk management in a precautionary context. |
