Crise na social-democracia sueca : a dissolução de velhas lealdades

By: Faria, Carlos Aurélio Pimenta de.
Material type: materialTypeLabelArticlePublisher: Rio de Janeiro : IUPERJ, 1996Dados - Revista de Ciências Sociais 39, 2, p. 279-314Abstract: Starting with a brief analysis os the main characteristics of the so-called Swedish model, the article examines the current crisis in Swedish social democracy, with special emphasis on the reshaping of the country's party system, the performance of the socialdemokratiska arbetarpartiet ( Social Democratic Party) at the polls, and the latter party's changing relations with the Confederation of Manual Labor Unions. It is argued that the main girders of Sweden's broad-reaching welfare state have been undermined by restructuring the productive system, entailing both endogenous and exogenous factors, and by the strategic re-directioning of the Social Democrati Party and the Confederation of Manual Labor Unions. In conclusion, it is suggested that the peculiarities of this model - faced with the problems of various orders discussed in this article - have grown so indistinct that today it is plausible to question the singularity of Sweden's model of social and political development.
