The article focuses on the rather underestimated role of the local government in Greece, which is confirmed by facts and figures. The huge number of small municipalities and consequently their small average size, lead to a series of problems both in economic terms and in terms of the level of quality in the services provided. Finally, some conclusions are draw, based on interviews with staff members of municipalities and the evalution of certain financial rations
