The analysis emphasizes how the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) dealt with the advent of the Workers Party (PT), and conversely, how the PT faced the dispute with the PCB. One thus perceives the parties views not only of themselves, but also of their opponents. The analysis also considers the scenarios in which the parties acted. In addition to original research and secondary sources, the article is also based on official documents produced by militants from the two parties, as well as positions expressed in the respective party presses. The article analyzes arguments at play in the struggle for hegemony in the Brazilian Left during the 1970s and 80s.
