A Pesquisa de Governo Eletrônico das Nações Unidas de 2016 (doravante denominada "a Pesquisa") é emitida
no momento em que os países estão lançando a implementação da Agenda 2030 para Desenvolvimento sustentável. Ele fornece novas evidências e novas análises para refletir sobre o potencial de Governo eletrônico para apoiar a implementação da Agenda e do 17 Desenvolvimento Sustentável Objetivos (ODS) que estão em sua essência. A própria Agenda 2030 reconheceu que “a difusão de informações e a tecnologia de comunicações e a interconexão global têm grande potencial para acelerar progresso humano, para colmatar o fosso digital e para desenvolver sociedades do conhecimento, como faz e inovação tecnológica em áreas tão diversas como medicina e energia ”(Nações Unidas,
2015, parágrafo 15)
