There are a number of significant reasons, ranging from faciliation of the interantional dealings of United States corporations to the interactions of the United States government with other governments, for creating a centralized privacy protection structure for the United States federal government. This article examines the rise of centralized governmental privacy protection structures, identifies reasons for addopting such structures, and analyszes a selection of the structures used by various nations and states at present.
