<br/><br/> This article explores the cultural differences that have influenced the German reunification process. It argues that reunification has been interpreted differently depending on whether individuals come from the East or the West. Using Schein `s (1992)framework different and critical aspects of the respective cultures are identified. The impact of these cultural forces is illustrated through a case study describing the development of the Treuhandanstalt and through metaphors that highlight alternative interpretations of reunification. The article concludes by discussing the implications of this process for appreciating cultural differences in Germany
