The Federal government, as part of its broader microeconomic reform agenda, has announced its intention to merge the Bureau of Industry Economics (BIE), the Economic Planning Advisory Commission (EPAC) and the Industry Commission (IC) to form the Productivity Commission. The Productivity Commission is expected to be at the forefront of policy debate and the reform effort. the three agencies are colocated in the Treasury portfolio so that amalgamation can begin on an administyrative basis. Relevant legislation will be enacted soon
