Shifting institutional and ideational terrains : the impact of Europeanisation and neoliberalism on women's policy agencies - UK : Policy Press, July 2010

This article explores the institutional and ideational changes that impact on the context in which state feminism is situated (the state) and the form that it takes (feminism). It draws on a recent study of women's policy agencies in 12 Western democracies and focuses on two changes in particular: the processes of Europeanisation and neoliberalisation. The former results in a move towards 'single equalities bodies' that are thought to be more effective in tackling discrimination in general and multiple discrimination in particular. The latter shows evidence of the way in which the market rather than the state is becoming ever-more prominent in the practices and priorities of women's policy agencies
