Following an outline of the Italian experience in public enterprise, the author delineates the major legal features which have brought about the Italian "State-businessman". It is worth noting that the whole crop of nationalized or State-controlled corporations representing often a whole sector of activity is far from giving the whole pixture of all the complexities prevalent in Italy to-day in the field of public enterprise whose size and particular features, both in erms of quality and quantity, are most impressive for a non-socialist country
