Corporate governance and public management in post-crisis Asia - 2001

The economic crisis in East Asia in 1997-98 has brought on some changes to many countries of the region. These have been evident largely in the corporate sector, though the public sector has also come in for serious review. The notion of good corporate governance has been used as one of the key ways of guilding reform efforts in the private sector, and many - including major donors - have made this their anchor for public sector governance reforms as well. The article argues that while the principles of corporate governance have obvious utility in helping to improve public sector management, they are only of limited use to public sector policy-makers
