Using Taguchi methods to improve a control scheme by adjustment of changeable settings : a case study - Oxfordshire : Routledge, September 2002

It is demonstrated, through a case study, how statistically designed experiments can help in improving online process control schemes remarkably. The study was conducted in the packing plant of a company manufacturing urea. The packing machine had an in-built computerized control mechanism that was supposed to controll the variation in packed bad weights by automatic measurement and adjustment. However, despite following the instruction manual rigorously, the machine was unable to deliver a satisfactory performance from the point of view of variation. An orthogonal aray experiment conducted with some of the machine parameters could bring about a dramactic improvement in the effectiveness of the control scheme
