Part I of this article is a wholly theoretical exploration of the problem of survivor syndrome based on a study of the literature. The theoretical model developed in Part I is then tested in Part II and the model is modified in accordance with the findings. The account of the methodology will chiefly by of interest to an academic readership. Nevertheless, the articles propose and thest a methodology which will also be of interest to practitioners
