The influx of mother into the work force has heightened the federal government's awareness of the need to help employees balance work and family responsibilities. The authors conducted ordinary least squares regression analyses using the 1991 survey of federal employees to investigate how the use of family-friendly policies affects federal workers' satisfaction with work/family balance is a vital component of an employee's job satisfaction, and the use of policies such as on-site child care and flextime appear to help amployees, particularly mothers, face the dual demands of work and family life better.
