520 | 3 | _aThe current model of economic integration of design possesses advantages of less bias and lower cost than traditional methods. However few methods are designed for manufacturability. Process capability analysis has been proven in practice to be a very valuable engineering decision tool. This paper presents a process capability index (PCI) approach to improve the economic integration model. In this paper, the methodology is illustrated with a successful application to the design of polyamide resin, and a comparative study is done with MATLAB software. The results show that the improved approach with PCI provides more flexibility for designing for manufacturability. Adjustment of tolerance should be made after the variation effect is sufficiently reduced. The robustness of response can be improved with a significant amount of total cost savings. | |
