520 3 _aThe BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are the developing countries with the most prospective
520 3 _aeconomic growth in the next generation. Many factors, such as natural resources, land and a
520 3 _alarge and cheap labor market contributes to the economic growth of this countries. However,
520 3 _ain a knowledge-based economy, innovation is far more important than land, physical capital, or
520 3 _alabor as the primary factor affecting a nation’s economic growth and development. Thus, given
520 3 _athe importance of the studies of NIS (national innovation system) in the BRIC countries, this
520 3 _aresearch is to characterize and compare the NIS of the four countries pointing out differences
520 3 _aand similarities, common bottlenecks and complementarities, as well as identifying current and
520 3 _apotential connections. Particular attention will be given to discuss policy implications and put
520 3 _aforward policy recommendations, extract lessons that can be useful not only for these countries
520 3 _abut also for other developing countries
