Siemens takes a grass-roots approach to knowledge management - 2002

The full article focuses onthe rise of knowledge management and provides a summary of useful concepts, different project types, supportive organizational structure and effective technologies. It shows that, if there is a limit to the success of knowledge management, it lies in the area of human attention. There is only so much human and managerial attention to go round, and even the highest value knowledge is of little use, unless someone can attend to it. One of the key battlegrouds in the allocated by individuals and organizations, knowing how to capture is more effectively for important information and knowledge, and using technology to acquire, keep and protect it. The article argues that, in future, attention management is likely to decide which businesses will be among the leaders of the new economy. The article is written in an accessible style, and contains much to interest senior managers, particularly human-resource specialists
